Why Everyone’s Switching Over to Alpaca Wool Insulation
Просмотров 17 тыс.21 день назад
In this video, I test the Paka Apu Lightweight jacket that uses a new type of Alpaca Wool Insulation. It's marketed as a better alternative to synthetic insulation jackets and as a competitive alternative to down insulated jackets. I put it all to the test (to the best of my abilities), to find out what it's really like. ▼ ALPACA WOOL JACKET (affiliate link) Paka Apu Lightweight Insulated Jacke...

10 Tips To Reduce CONDENSATION In Your Tent
Просмотров 102 тыс.Месяц назад
In this video, I share 10 tips on how you can reduce condensation in your tent. The main idea is that you always have to reduce the humidity in the tent, as well as the temperature difference between inside and outside air. You do this by sleeping in warmer, less humid places, and adding more airflow to the tent to reduce humidity. ▼ THRU-HIKING POSTERS (MADE BY ME & MY GF) Shop hiking trail po...
Washing Down Gear Is More Important Than You Think!

In this video, I talk about down insulation, and specifically, why and how it needs to be washed. You should do it once every season or every other season, depending on how often you use your down sleeping bags and down puffy jackets. Washing down insulation restores its fluffiness and restores its insulating ability to nearly how it was when you first received it. Use this guide to wash down s...

The sleeping bag I used in February was toasty warm. The mountain warehouse Everest down bag was taken out of its stuff sack one day before I went camping after being in there for ten years.

Measuring water for a cup of coffee and not just using that cup? Or your brain? You already know roughly what 250ml, 500 ml and 1 l is, bc you use it everyday. I mean, most people do, right? Same way that you know roughly what 1m or 1 kg is. Just life experience.

Excellent video! One set of trails you haven't mentioned are the European Long-Distance Paths ("E-Paths"), a set of 12 trans-European trails that cross the whole continent. I've been trying to advocate for them as an alternative to the US long-distance trails, because some of them are truly enormous undertakings (the E1, for example, runs from Nordkapp on the northern coast of Norway all the way south through Scandinavia, Denmark, Germany, down through Italy, and eventually to Sicily, a distance of over 7,000km). I've been gradually hiking the E10 in Germany (it runs from Rügen on the Baltic Sea down into Czechia, then across Austria, then meets the E5 in the Italian Alps), and I can confirm everything you've said about the difficulty of camping on the trail here. "Camping" for Germans seems to mean with a caravan or trailer, and the idea of a through-hiker backpacking through seems almost completely alien. But the trails cover such a wide variety of terrain, across such beautiful landscapes, I really wish more people would hike them. Anyway, thanks again for this video, and please keep advocating for long-distance hiking in Europe.

I mean packing within your weight limit is a smart way to go hiking camping. But ultra light? Doesn’t that kind of take the difficulty aspect away from hiking? The pride from carrying some decent weight around. Idk man this just seems stupid to me

Yes those emergency blankets are a life saver. My wife and I did a school trip for her class and the “nearest” town to reference for forecast was about 1200 feet lower elevation and we were up exposed on a plateau. Temps got about 10-15 degrees below what everyone thought they would be. Instead of a chilly 45° we hovered above freezing. We couldn’t sleep at all cause we were just shivering trying to stay warm and I when I went to set up the car so we can turn it on and run some heat I saw I had an emergency blanket in the car so we put that between our sleeping bag and the quilt blanket we had over top of us. At least kept us warm enough to get some sleep for a few hours

If it is an overnight trip, I don't take food. If it is a bit longer, I'll bring nuts, seeds, and dried fruit, but I leave all the cooking gear at home. You can typically save a lot of weight and pack space by taking food that doesn't need to be cooked. If the area I am going to has fresh water, I just bring a filter and a water bladder. I also find that hammock systems generally weigh less, take up less pack space, and cost a lot less than a tent.

Just as many others here pointed out already: that language Part is absolutely Not true! Basically every European country teaches english since primary school and gladly talk to you in english. I'm Austrian, for example, and it's quite likely to meet Italian hikers here where we automatically just switch to english. It's really quite common.

dude why you talk about EUROPE and completely miss Central European countries? Like Czech republic and Slovakia have the best trail marking system in whole Europe (it´s not complicated, you cannot get lost there) as well as long distance hikes (in CZ longest trail has 2000km and in Slovakia 770 km). Also Slovakia has around 1200 bears. Worth to mention, don´t get it why u skipped these countries man.

Thanks you. Sooo much good ideas. Bit I would absolutely not recommend to use a grocery store plastic bottle instead of a Nalgene or titanium bottle. Most of them contains bisphenol A that dissolves in the drinking water and is not healthy at all. Use a good bpa free water bottle instead.
